Network Connection Approvals
Commercial systems connect to the grid through Western Power, whose approval process and export limits shape how a Welshpool system is sized and when it can switch on.
Yes. Larger commercial systems, typically above 30kW, need approval from Western Power before they can connect and export, and that approval can take some weeks. For Welshpool’s bigger warehouse arrays we factor this into the timeline from the start, lodge the application early and design within any export limit the network sets for your site.
It depends on what the checks find. If the switchboard is near capacity, upgrading it alongside the install is usually cheaper and avoids a second shutdown. If the roof sheeting is close to the end of its life, it can be worth timing solar with a planned re-roof so panels are not removed and refitted. We set out both paths after the assessment so you can weigh cost against timing for your site.
Where the network caps how much you can export, we size around what you consume on site during weekday hours rather than the maximum the roof could fit. A system that self-consumes most of its generation offsets grid power directly, which is worth far more than exporting at low rates. We model your actual load profile first, so the array matches how your Welshpool operation really runs rather than filling every square metre of roof.
